Our story

Every child has something to say.

JAMI Learning was built on that belief — and on a promise made in a moment its founder has never forgotten.

The moment that started JAMI

It began with a child.

Years ago, during her years in education, Fatima Asif watched a young, non-speaking autistic boy being physically restrained — not out of cruelty, but because the adults around him simply didn't know what else to do.

What she saw in that moment wasn't a child who needed to be controlled. It was a child who needed to be understood.

She made herself a promise: never again. No child should be reduced to restraint or "behaviour management" simply because they communicate differently — and every child deserves the chance to show the world what they know.

“Not a child who needed control — a child who needed to be understood.”

From the classroom to a new kind of centre

An educator who went deeper.

Long before JAMI, Fatima spent more than fifteen years leading in international education — progressing through senior roles at the Beaconhouse School System in Muscat, from head teacher to headmistress, guiding teachers, shaping curriculum, and building classrooms where children could thrive.

But her attention kept returning to the children for whom conventional teaching was never enough — children whose intelligence and capacity were hidden behind differences in speech, movement, sensory processing, and regulation. So she went deeper: specialised training in autism, communication access, sensory integration, and gestalt language, among others.

That journey led her, in February 2024, to found JAMI Learning — not another therapy centre, but a place where therapy and real learning finally sit together, built around the whole child.

What we believe

The principles behind everything we do.

Presume competence

A child's inability to show what they know is never proof that the knowing isn't there. We start from capability, not doubt.

Communication is a right

Speech is one pathway, not the definition of communication. Every child deserves a reliable way to be heard.

Regulation before performance

A dysregulated nervous system can't show its best. We support readiness and connection before ever demanding output.

Difference, not deficit

We look for what's underneath behaviour — a need, not a problem to erase — and support the child as they are.

Teach the child, not the diagnosis

No two children are the same. We adapt the approach to the learner, never force the learner to fit the approach.

Parents, empowered

The expertise shouldn't stay in the therapy room. We coach families so support continues at home, every day.

What our name means

JAMI — Joint, Adaptive, Multisensory, Inclusive.

J

Joint

A child's brain, body, senses, communication and learning are connected — so our support is too, never siloed.

A

Adaptive

We adapt the approach to the learner. The child is never forced to fit one predetermined method.

M

Multisensory

Each child's sensory profile shapes how we teach and support — because that's how learning actually lands.

I

Inclusive

Access belongs to every child — speaking, minimally speaking, non-speaking, and everyone in between.

What families can expect

What it feels like to be here.

✦

You're a partner, not a spectator

We coach you alongside your child, so you leave understanding them better, with tools that work at home.

✦

Your child, understood and respected

We meet every child with dignity and curiosity — never trying to make them mask who they are.

✦

A calm, welcoming space

Our ground-floor, park-facing centre in Nirala Nagar was chosen to feel safe and easy for families.

✦

A plan built around your child

Every journey starts with an unhurried assessment, and the path is shaped to your child — not a template.

Every child deserves to be understood.

If that's what you want for your child, we'd love to hear from you — warmly, and without pressure.
